Replacing Outdated Audio-Visual Technology

Estimated Read Time: 5 minutes

Client: The Olympus Academy Trust

Vendors: Promethean

Project Date: August 2023

The Olympus Academy Trust comprises a number of primary and secondary schools situated in and around the Bristol area.

In July 2023 Computeam were invited by Everything ICT, as part of their DfE procurement framework, to tender for the supply and installation of 74 x 75” non-interactive screens and 15 x 75” Promethean AP9 Interactive Panels.

The Challenge

Replacing outdated and inefficient audio-visual technology. Each of the four schools had a number of ageing interactive whiteboards and projectors which were becoming increasingly unreliable. The Trust wanted to replace this outdated equipment with up-to-date display screens in order to provide a clearer, more immersive classroom experience for students and to remove the frustration for teaching staff of having to use outdated and troublesome equipment for lesson delivery.

The budget, however, remained a challenge and whilst interactivity was desired across all classes, the Trust thought it was unachievable.

The Solution

Computeam’s educational consultants know that interactive panels, when used to their full capability, provide a far better solution for teaching and learning than non-interactive screens and therefore suggested using Promethean 75” LX series panels instead of the non-interactive screens.

Working in partnership with Promethean, Computeam were able to offer very competitive pricing, and following further discussions with the Trust, prepared a final quotation for the supply and installation of 95 x Promethean 75” LX Interactive Panels, plus 1 x 75” Promethean AP9 Panel and Promethean ActivInspire Professional edition lesson delivery software which was accepted.

Full installation and configuration was carried out at four of the Trust's schools; Abbeywood Community School, Bradley Stoke Community School, Winterbourne Academy and Callicroft Primary Academy during August 2023. The Result.

The Result

A standardised solution across all classrooms, with the ability to teach from the screens and seamlessly cast and connect from any device. All backed by a full training package for staff and industry-leading warranty and support from Computeam and Promethean..

Client Statement

We were pleased with the creative proposal from Computeam and the enhanced price support from Promethean. It has enabled us to standardise with front-of-class provision across the schools. Computeam’s project managers and installers ensured a smooth and hassle-free deployment..

Computeam Statement

was delighted to be involved with this project to make a difference for the staff and children. Working closely with our long-term partners Promethean enabled me to produce a better value proposal for the trust. The work completed and the ongoing relationship relates very closely to Computeam’s passion for improving educational outcomes using technology.

Key Lessons

  • Ensuring that training services accompany any new technology dramatically improves the impact and educational return on investment.
  • Product and Vendor choice is important and shouldn’t be rushed or only look at price.
  • Detailed project planning and identification of solution champions within the school were critical to a successful deployment and adoption by all users.
