Computeam are delighted to announce that we have become a strategic partner in a significant new charity partnership with Tech She Can. Alongside 14 other strategic partners, including Google, NatWest and PwC, we’re extremely proud to be at the forefront of this important, progressive initiative.
As a technology company, firmly established in the education sector, Computeam are acutely aware of the challenges that exist in the pursuit to inspire all genders to work in the technology industry, and we are determined to offer expertise and promote our values of inclusivity within our role as strategic partner.
Salford Schoolgirl goes viral in animation to encourage young girls into STEM
Computeam were delighted to sponsor this video with Tech She Can, where 10-year-old schoolgirl Ava Roberts stars in a 5 minute lesson.
The video is set to be watched by thousands of schoolchildren across the country, and hopes to encourage more girls to consider a career in science, technology, engineering and maths.
The series of animations explore different aspects of STEM with an aim to inspire young children to think and talk about technology such as drones, robotics, and AI.
Fantastic work, Ava!
Who is Tech She Can?
Founded in 2018 by Sheridan Ash MBE with 18 like-minded individuals, Tech She Can is passionate about improving the accessibility and opportunities for women entering into technology roles.
As a collective, they aim to educate and inspire girls and women to study and pursue careers in technology. Tech She Can’s mission statement is clear: for women to be equals in creating and developing new technology businesses, products and services that shape our world. In line with Computeam’s own principles, Tech She Can believes that technology should work for all.
What is Computeam’s role as strategic partner?
As strategic partners, there are opportunities for team members at Computeam to train with Tech She Can. From this position, we can deliver lessons and assemblies to pupils in some of the 500+ schools we support—while also becoming Tech She Can role models to further improve the outreach.
As part of their action plan to inspire children to follow a path into the technology sector, Tech She Can offers free animated lessons, presented by Katie and her dog, Tex, aimed at children aged 5+. The animation series is available to watch online on-demand, and is for use in both classrooms and at home. Computeam will be sponsoring some of these innovative lessons, which aims to educate and encourage young girls—those who might not otherwise have an access point into the world of technology, animation and computer-aided design.
What are Computeam saying?
“I have been keenly watching Tech She Can since their foundations and am so delighted that we are able to become involved.
As a technology specialist working in the EdTech sector, I am acutely aware of the gender imbalance in our industry which is not at all reflective of the workforce within our clients' schools. Computeam are proud of the diversity in our workforce, but we want to do better! Gender and job-related stereotypes should not be seen as a barrier or limitation in the aspirations of young people.
What I particularly like about the Tech She Can charity, through the Tech We Can lessons and outreach, is that they begin that remapping of the mindset at the earliest age groups within the schools in which we work, before the historical stereotypes have had a chance to take root.”
